The Bungalow is our tiniest nest box, just right for the smallest birds who love a snug, cozy spot! These little homes are super popular and a fantastic way to start welcoming birdlife into your space. House Sparrows are fans of this style all over the country, but if you’re lucky enough to be near beech forest, you might even spot Waxeyes or Riflemen moving in. With a feeder and birdbath, it's like setting up a little bird B&B!

With a snug interior made of raw native timber that mimics their natural habitat, the entrance hole is just the right size for these small birds—big enough for them to hop in comfortably but too small for bigger birds or pesky nest raiders.

For the best chance of attracting some adorable new neighbors, place your Bungalows close to a feeder and in a quiet spot with less foot traffic. Make sure they’re at least 1.8 meters off the ground to stay out of reach of cats. A shady spot under the south-facing eaves is a favorite—cool, cozy, and secure. Small birds are super social, often nesting in flocks and setting up their homes side by side, so why not create a little bird community with a few bungalows, take advantage of our multi-buy offer in The Terrace, space them about a meter apart, and start your own flock.

Our nest boxes are designed using the latest research from ornithologists, universities, and conservation centers in Aotearoa and beyond. They’re built to give birds the best chance at a cozy, successful nest while keeping predators at bay. Check out all the features here.

And while this box is designed with specific bird species in mind, sometimes our feathered friends like to surprise us! You may find a different bird moves in, and that’s part of the fun. Whoever shows up, enjoy their company, care for them, and watch in excitement when the little ones take their first wobbly flights.

  • Our nest boxes are made from natural, rough-sawn macrocarpa timber, so no two are exactly alike. You’ll see unique grain patterns, textures, knots, and color variations that add to their charm. We keep the rough-sawn finish unsanded to a create a natural feel and a cozy spot for the birds. This does mean the surface might feel a bit rough or uneven, but that’s all part of the rustic appeal if you happen to have feathers.

Macrocarpa is super durable outdoors, but over time, it may weather with some surface splits and a shift in color to a beautiful silver-grey. It’s all part of nature doing its thing!
